Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says its military has "eliminated" Hamas's Gaza chief Mohammed Sinwar, one of its most wanted men and the brother of the group's late leader Yahya Sinwar. Mohammed Sinwar was the target of a massive Israeli strike on the courtyard and surrounding area of the European hospital in the southern city of Khan Younis on 13 May, which the Israeli military said destroyed Hamas's "underground infrastructure" there. Gaza's Hamas-run health ministry said at the time that 28 people were killed. Hamas itself has neither confirmed nor denied Sinwar's death. Yahya Sinwar, mastermind of the 7 October 2023 attack on Israel, was killed by Israeli troops last October.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Wednesday that Israel had eliminated Hamas Gaza chief Mohammad Sinwar, one of its most wanted targets and the younger brother of the deceased group's leader, Yahya Sinwar. Mohammad Sinwar had been the target of an Israeli strike on a hospital in southern Gaza earlier this month and Netanyahu said on May 21 that it was likely he had been killed. "We eliminated Mohammad Deif, (Ismail) Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar and Mohammad Sinwar," Netanyahu said, confirming the death to the Israeli parliament, known as the Knesset. "In the last two days we have been in a dramatic turn towards a complete defeat of Hamas," he said, adding that Israel was also "taking control of food distribution", a reference to a new aid distribution system in Gaza managed by a U.S.-backed group.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel has killed senior Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar. Sinwar was the younger brother of the group's former leader Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by the IDF last year, and the de facto leader in Gaza. Speaking to parliament on Wednesday, Netanyahu included Mohammed in a list of Hamas leaders killed in strikes. Israel targeted Sinwar in a set of strikes on the European hospital in Khan Younis last week. The attack killed 28 Palestinians and wounded over 50 others, the Palestinian Ministry of Health said.
